Wool

The Millers utilized French Creek to power their mill. The mill wove goat hair into angora. The cats hair was also sometimes used. c. 1869

Goats don't have wool, only sheep, and no one was able to get Black Beard to discuss what he did with the sheep's underwear.

Well, the underwear were probably made of wool. In that day, most people washed their cloths in the creek by bashing them with rocks, however the Millers were so poor, they couldn't afford rocks. They had to go the the creek and bash their clothes with their heads.
